FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC IN THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO AND THE GREAT LAKES REGION OF CENTRAL AFRICA BY: (A) THE RELIEF OF POVERTY BY; (I) PROVIDING GRANTS, ITEMS AND SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS IN NEED AND/OR CHARITIES, OR OTHER ORGANISATIONS WORKING TO PREVENT OR RELIEVE POVERTY; (II) PROVIDING TRAINING AND SUPPORT, IN PARTICULAR TO YOUNG PEOPLE, TO ENABLE THEM TO DEVELOP SKILLS AND BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT. (B) THE RELIEF OF SICKNESS AND PRESERVATION OF GOOD HEALTH.
Its Objects are:- a) To advance the Christian Religion in the Democratic Republic of the Congo; b) In partnership with the Anglican Church in the Democratic Republic of Congo to relieve poverty and to provide for the needs of refugees and the displaced; c) In partnership with the Anglican Church in the DRC and civil society there to promote and sustain schemes for peace and reconciliation, health, education and community development for the welfare and benefit of the population; d) To relieve poverty among the clergy and former clergy of the Anglican Church and the widows and dependents of any such persons.
TO PROMOTE THE BENEFIT OF THE CONGOLESE COMMUNITY, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY THOSE RESIDENT IN SCOTLAND BY; THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING THE RELIEF OF POVERTY, SICKNESS AND DISTRESS THE PROMOTION OF GOOD HEALTH TO ADVANCE IN LIFE AND HELP YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH PROVIDING SUPPORT AND ACTIVITIES WHICH DEVELOP THEIR SKILLS, CAPACITIES AND CAPABILITIES TO ENABLE THEM TO PARTICIPATE IN SOCIETY AS MATURE AND RESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUALS.
Merlin is the only specialist UK agency which responds worldwide with vital health care and medical relief for vulnerable people caught up in natural disasters, conflict, disease and health system collapse. Every year Merlin helps over 15 million people in up to 20 countries. NATURAL DISASTERS: Merlin’s emergency relief teams have reached thousands of survivors. Recent rapid response missions include the 2008 Cyclone in Myanmar. CONFLICT: Merlin supplies clinics, hospitals and outreach services to communities affected by conflict in regions such as in Darfur, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Afghanistan. DISEASE: Our malaria, HIV and TB programmes are helping to prevent and treat disease in Asia and Africa, saving many lives each year. HEALTH SYSTEM COLLAPSE: In countries where war, disaster or lack of investment has ravaged the healthcare infrastructure, Merlin trains local staff, equips laboratories and rehabilitates hospitals.
AGLAS (Charity number=1114127) is a charity dedicated to improving the lives, changing the future and integrating people originating from the African Great Lakes region living in Stoke-on-Trent. It started in June 2005. AGLAS stands for African Great Lakes in Staffordshire. The African Great Lakes region covers six countries: Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda). The charity aims at providing support to the first generation and newly established immigrants from the region who are mainly people who fled the plight of acts of genocide, civil wars and political instability. We engage with the most vulnerable of those immigrants - women, children and asylum seekers/refugees- through a range of information and participative services in education, health, culture, employment and sports. We run education and culture activities and, in future, we intend to extend out activities in the African Great Lakes Region.
A. TO RELIEVE SICKNESS, POVERTY, HARDSHIP AND DISTRESS AMONGST AFRICAN REFUGEES IN GENERAL AND THOSE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (FORMER ZAIRE), ANGOLA AND CONGO-BRAZZAVILLE IN PARTICULAR, CURRENTLY LIVING IN THE UNITED KINGDOM IN GENERAL AND LONDON IN PARTICULAR; AND B. TO PROMOTE THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC FAITH.
1. THE RELIEF OF HUNGER AND SICKNESS AMONG CHILDREN WHO ARE IN CONDITIONS OF NEED, HARDSHIP AND DISTRESS IN THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO (DRC). 2. THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION OF SUCH YOUNG PEOPLE BY THE PROVISION OF EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT, SPONSORSHIP AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. 3. TO PROMOTE THE PROTECTION AND PRESERVATION OF THEIR GOOD HEALTH BY RAISING HYGIENE AWARENESS AND ENCOURAGING EDUCATION IN NUTRITION.
To provide emergency relief to children and their families in conflict and post-conflict zones; To develop short and long term educational programmes including teacher training, rehabilitation/reconstruction and health and safety awareness; To focus world attention on children's rights and ensure that these rights are protected; To be instrumental in healing the psychological damage caused to children by their experience of war; To develop relationships with local partners in War Child's areas of operation, providing practical, innovative support to enhance capacities.
